Your Blog Is The Key To Bigger Affiliate Marketing Residual Commissions

Affiliate marketing is one of the easier ways to make money online, but building bigger affiliate marketing residual commissions can be a tough slog if you don't know the key. For most affiliates, especially those just getting started, your blog is that key to bigger residual commissions.

These days there's a plethora of advice about making money online. They'll tell you to use your social media accounts to get sales - but if you've tried affiliate marketing on social media you already know how hard it is to get people to click your affiliate links. Others tell you your e-zines will make you the bulk of your money, and that's true - once you have a big enough, tightly-targeted opt-in list. But just how do you build that list, and how do you make money online while you're still building it?

And then there's the whole issue of residual income opportunities... In order to get ongoing monthly commissions, you have to get people to take action on offers that charge them a monthly fee. Generally speaking, these are the hardest affiliate sales to make, as most buyers would rather pay once for something upfront rather than add to their ongoing monthly overhead.

So what's the answer, the key to making bigger affiliate marketing residual commissions? Your blog. And why is your blog the key?
  • People on social media sites aren't there to shop - they're there to socialize and be entertained and informed. Getting them to click a marketing link is much harder than getting them to click through to a blog post that interests them. Use that blog post to warm them up and THEN send them to your affiliate link.

  • You can use your blog post to pre-sell the opportunity you're about to lead them to. Discuss the importance of reliable, affordable hosting for their business websites before sending them to a hosting solution. Discuss the advantages of 'being in the know' before recommending that finance & investment membership site. Focus on how healthy they can be and how sexy they'll look once they're really fit before suggesting they join that exercise forum. If they're thinking about all the benefits of membership when they click your affiliate link you'll have a much better chance of turning that reader into a customer that earns you recurring affiliate commissions.

  • Use your blog sidebar to offer visitors related materials for free when they join your opt-in lists. An e-book, audios or videos can be a powerful incentive to a targeted prospect, and once they're on your list you'll be able to reach them time and again. Remember, over time your lists will evolve into your biggest source of affiliate commissions, so make sure your opt-in box is in the sidebar where it'll show up on every post you make!

  • With a bit of thought you should easily be able to come up with half a dozen or more features and benefits of the offer you're promoting and you can focus on one in each of a number of posts for that same offer. Do 2 or 3 posts in a row like that when you first start as an affiliate for the site then space the rest out, using one for every 3, 4 or 5 posts you make.

  • Finally, remember that each post remains online and archived on your blog, waiting for new readers weeks, months or years from now. If you've done proper search engine optimization (SEO) on your posts as you go along, there's a good chance they'll stay in the search engine listings for good, each another sign post leading back to your blog.
From there, just be sure to get as much targeted traffic to your blog as you can. Set up a 'revolving door' - link from your social media sites and e-zine to your blog, and be sure to have links to your social media profiles and your opt-in form on your blog. The more legitimate help you can give people on various sites online, in your e-zine and on your blog, the bigger your affiliate marketing residual commissions will be!
